Five Observations
I selected a narrative record for my observations because it seemed to be the most straightforward method to record what I saw in the preschool. When I review my notes about my time spent in the preschool, I see that most of the children like problem solving together. There are, of course, some children who prefer to play alone, or even instigate problems in the program, but I am sure that will always be the case. The children in the preschool are obviously encouraged to spend a lot of time outdoors and exploring their natural environment, which I absolutely love. I have seen some programs that are completely academic based, and the children looked bored out of their minds, not interacting with each other--in short, not being kids. After spending time in the preschool and seeing the routines of the children's day, I would definitely plan my curriculum around a hands-on, emergent curriculum. I can see that a lot of the children thrive on routine and consistency, and I would not want to disrupt that by planning any activities that did not promote children learning by doing.
